This hands-on, two-day course is designed for flooring professionals looking to expand their skills in sub-floor preparation and vinyl wet room installation. Learn to identify, prepare, and install over a range of substrates, with a strong focus on British Standards, moisture management, and best practices for cap and cove systems.

Course Breakdown:

Day 1 - Sub-Floor Preparation & Moisture Management

Master the essentials of prepping a sub-floor for a compliant, watertight installation.

  • Sub-floor type identification:
    Learn to identify various substrates and assess their readiness for installation – including concrete, timber, screed, and refurbishment surfaces.
  • British standards overview:
    Understand the key British Standards that govern sub-floor prep, moisture testing, and resilient floor installation in wet areas.
  • Moisture testing (Hands on)
    Carry out moisture testing using different tools and techniques, including hygrometers, RH probes, and surface tests. Learn how to interpret and document results.
  • Damp proof membrane (DPM) solutions:
    Choose and apply the right DPM system for your conditions – from moisture suppression layers to full-surface barriers.
  • Working with liquid screeds:
    Learn how to correctly prepare calcium sulphate and liquid cement screeds, including laitance removal, sanding, priming, and drying requirements.
  • Crack repair techniques:
    Identify the cause of cracking and apply appropriate repair compounds or epoxy injection systems.
  • Priming methods:
    Understand the importance of primer compatibility with both sub-floor and smoothing compound, and how to apply them correctly.
  • Smoothing & levelling compounds:
    Practical application of levelling compounds over a range of substrates, with focus on wet room performance requirements.

Day 2 – Cap & cove vinyl wet room installation

Take your LVT and vinyl skills further with this deep dive into wet room-specific installation.

  • Setting out for wet room installations:
    Learn how to accurately plan layouts for efficient fitting, minimising waste and achieving clean transitions around drains, doorways, and corners.
  • Installing cove formers & capping strips:
    Step-by-step guidance on installing cap and cove systems – essential for hygienic and compliant wet rooms.
  • Vinyl templating for tight spaces:
    Practice templating methods for small, awkward areas such as behind toilets, pipe boxes, and alcoves.
  • Coving sheet vinyl & cutting mitres:
    Heat forming and cutting techniques to create seamless internal and external corners.
  • Vinyl welding techniques:
    Learn to weld seams using hot air welding equipment for a watertight and professional finish.
  • Using tape systems in cap & cove installations:
    Introduction to tape adhesives for vertical installations – when and how to use them effectively.
  • Adhesive selection & application:
    Choose the correct adhesive for every surface – including wall-to-floor transitions, vertical bonding, and specialist wet areas.
  • Tool overview & usage:
    Hands-on with WOLFF tools specifically designed for cutting, welding, coving, and installing wet room flooring systems.
